Spelling
The day continues on with a spelling lesson from the Sitton Spelling curriculum. With Sitton, students are not given a list of words to memorize and then forget after the weekly spelling test. Instead, students are taught about the English language through lessons reinforcing phonemic awareness and grammar. After being taught these concepts, students are asked to spell 5 high-frequency words that follow the rules of the concepts taught that week, as well as other high frequency words seen in previous units. By learning concepts, students gain a deeper understanding of how to spell, while the frequent revisiting of spelling high-frequency words promotes automaticity when writing.
One of many things to remember when using Sitton Spelling:
There is no 'h' in 'were'.
There is no 'h' in 'were'.
Just add 'we', then 're'.
There is no 'h' in 'were'.
